It has long been said on Wall Street that tips are for “wait staff and horse races.”  The implication is that investors have no place for tips in their portfolios.  The success of social media in recent years has underscored the fact that we are social creatures and prefer to do things socially whenever possible.  We are especially prone to want moral support when we are doing something that induces anxiety.  Part of the terror that many people feel when speaking in public is the feeling of aloneness.  One teenager giving a speech in front of a small class is a nervous wreck; throw in few instruments and a few more teenagers, and they are a rock band ready for the big time.
