Altheria

In the liminal space between fable and truth, the expansive continent of Black Watch’s Altheria reveals itself, a confluence of nature’s grand tapestry and the undying chronicles of civilizations that have graced its lands.

Bearing testament to nature’s formidable artistry, the vast Akash Mountains rise stoically, piercing the skies in the heart of Altheria. These towering peaks, rugged and daunting, gradually soften into the expansive Vishodan Plateau, a highland realm that extends for about 60 miles. The plateau, an elevated realm of frost and wind, sharply plunges into the relentless embrace of the Narakar Desert below, forming dramatic escarpments and deep canyons. This sun-baked wasteland is a seemingly endless horizon of golden sand where the blazing sun plays its mirages.

It is amidst this triad of mountain, plateau, and desert that the mighty Vishodan Empire has been forged. The spirit of its people mirrors their environment—fierce, indomitable, with an ethos deeply rooted in a reverence for spirits and the elemental forces that have shaped their homeland. Their settlements, built both on the lofty heights and the desert’s edge, reflect a resilience shaped by centuries of battling nature’s extremes. The challenges posed by this unique topography have chiseled the Vishodans into formidable beings, their fortitude unmatched, their pride unyielding.

Yet, the desert is not all unforgiving. To the empire’s extremities, where the land meets the sea, there exists a thin stretch of respite. Coastal oases and pockets of arable land, nourished by the occasional rains, cradle most of the empire’s cities. These coastal havens form a protective ring, bustling hubs of trade and culture, guarding the vast wilderness of the plateau and desert within.

In all their majestic splendor, the monumental Akash Mountains don’t just stand as the empire’s backbone. They serve as both a natural defense and a symbolic boundary—a stark demarcation that separates the fervent heat of the northern Narakar from the more temperate and diverse landscapes that flourish to the south.

South of this frozen bastion lies the Kingdom of Vanier, a realm both verdant and vibrant. Occupying the central west coast, its coastal advantage is protected inland by dense forests and natural barriers, making it a formidable maritime power. To its north, the Kingdom of Hanan shares borders with Vainer, with the imposing highlands and ridges granting them a defensible position against both eastern and western neighbors. Hanan’s neighbor to the east, the Kingdom of Kiran, is flanked by the sea on one side and the protective embrace of the Nishan Federation’s city-states on the other. This federation thrives, its cities united in purpose and defense, made unassailable by marshy wetlands and treacherous mountain foothills.

On the southeastern coast, the Kingdom of Chandan thrives, its position defended naturally by rugged coastal cliffs and a series of river systems that deter any inland advance. The Kingdom of Durshan, on the extreme southwestern edge, benefits from its isolation, with dense woods to the north and the vast expanse of the ocean to the west.

Lying westward in the embrace of the sea is the enigmatic Kingdom of Zara. This island kingdom, veiled in myth, is surrounded by treacherous waters and coral reefs, protecting its secrets and its formidable inhabitants, rumored to be mighty warriors and arcane mystics.

Altheria, in all its vastness, is not merely a land of kingdoms and frontiers. It’s a saga penned by nature and narrated by its inhabitants—from the Vishodan plateau-dwellers who dance with spirits to the seafarers of Zara singing ballads of the deep. Every sand dune, mountaintop, forest glade, and bustling city market adds a line to the enduring tale of the World of Black Watch.

With each dawn, Altheria extends an invitation to those daring enough—to explore its depths, conquer its challenges, and inscribe their own legends on the annals of the World of Black Watch.
