Student Learning Outcomes for Section 3.5
- SLO 1: Explain the link between supportive family relationships and delinquency prevention.
- SLO 2: Describe two different types of community resources that can help prevent juvenile delinquency.
- SLO 3: Identify at least two challenges faced by community or family-based prevention programs and propose potential solutions.
- SLO 4: Describe how policies can support the work of community and family-based delinquency prevention programs.
- SLO 5: Research youth programs and resources offered in your community and explain how they help prevent delinquency.
Assessment Ideas
- Short Answer (SLO 1 & SLO 2): Have students pick one way to strengthen families (e.g., parenting classes) and one type of community support (e.g., mentoring) and explain in detail how each prevents delinquency.
- Discussion Board (SLO 3 & SLO 4): Post prompts like, “If you could design a program to help families in your community, what would it be? What challenges might it face?” Encourage students to build on one another’s ideas for solutions and discuss the role of government support.
- Written Assignment (SLO 5): Have students use community websites, social service agencies, etc. to locate a local program for youth. They need to describe what it does (target population, activities) and how this links to concepts from the chapter.
