What You Will Learn

In this section, you’ll explore the different types of scholarly articles, such as empirical studies, literature reviews, and theoretical and methodological articles, and learn about their unique contributions to social science research. You’ll develop skills to critically evaluate scholarly sources by assessing author credentials, publication reputation, and peer review status. Additionally, you’ll gain proficiency in evaluating primary and secondary sources, understanding their roles and limitations, and applying ethical considerations when using digital archives and resources.

Student Learning Outcomes for Section 2.1

  • SLO 1: Gain an understanding of the various types of scholarly articles, including empirical studies, literature reviews, theoretical and methodological articles, and their respective contributions to the broader knowledge base in social science research.
