Deskilling gained prominence as a concept in the sociology of work, particularly through the analyses of labor processes by Harry Braverman and others in the 20th century. They argued that the division of labor and technological advancement in capitalist economies lead to the simplification of tasks. This process not only diminishes the demand for skilled labor but also shifts control from workers to managers, centralizing authority and reducing the autonomy of the workforce.
