What You Will Learn

In this section, you will explore the impact of major Supreme Court decisions on prisoners’ rights and how these decisions have affected corrections administration. You will gain an understanding of the legal concept of a “state created liberty interest” within the context of prisoners’ rights. Additionally, you will learn about the various First Amendment rights that have been protected or limited for prisoners, the rights prisoners have during disciplinary hearings, and how the Court has applied the Eighth Amendment to prison conditions.
