Druid

Alacrity Fantasy, A TTRPG by Adam J.. McKee and James G. Walker, Jr.

Druids are the living pulse of the natural world—wardens of forest, marsh, and mountain who draw power from earth, sky, and beast alike. Whether you’ve apprenticed under a circle of stone‑carvers, learned the language of wind‑whipped reeds, or walked barefoot through primal groves, your strength comes from communion with life’s wild rhythms.

Core Build

  • Primary Stats: Mind (anchors nature lore and powers the Magic skill); Body (underwrites HP/SP and resilience).
  • Secondary Stats: Dexterity (guides Stealth and Dodge); Strength (aids Athletics and carrying capacity).
  • Signature Skills: Survival, Lore (Nature), Perception, Athletics, Dodge, Medicine or First Aid.

Equipment

Druids often favor simple, natural gear. This might include plain robes or non-metallic armor (like Leather or Hide Armor), a wooden shield, a staff or club, perhaps a sickle or dagger, an Herbalism Kit, and various pouches containing natural components or remedies.

Nature’s Command (Using Effects)

Like any caster in Alacrity, Druids learn and utilize their circle’s secrets through the core Magic → Mana Points → Effects system:

  • Initiate Magic: You must spend 20 XP to add the Magic skill to your character sheet, starting at a percentage equal to your Mind score. This grants you a Mana Pool (MP) equal to your Magic skill percentage.
  • Learn Effects: Each specific spell or nature-attuned ability is an “Effect.” Once you discover the rite or chant in play (GM approval), you pay 5 XP to inscribe and learn it. Examples might include Call Lightning, Barkskin Ward, or Healing Grasp.
  • Cast Effects: To use a learned Effect, spend the MP cost set by the GM, roll your Magic skill (applying any situational modifiers from the Difficulty Ladder), and apply the outcome (success, failure, critical) as detailed by the Effect’s description.

Primal Form and Wild Kin (Signature Effects)

A Druid’s bond with nature often reaches beyond simple spells. Druids frequently learn powerful Effects allowing deeper communion, such as:

  • Wild Form: Allowing transformation into the shape of natural beasts.
  • Companion Bond: Enabling interaction with, summoning, or bolstering a bonded animal ally.

(See Appendix A for detailed mechanics of these and potentially other Druidic Effects).
