What You Will Learn

In this section, you’ll understand the importance of research methods in ensuring the value and accuracy of academic research. You’ll learn to critically evaluate research methods, distinguish between quantitative and qualitative research, and recognize the characteristics of experimental and nonexperimental studies. Additionally, you’ll develop skills to assess the quality of research evidence, focusing on measurement validity, reliability, and understanding statistical significance versus effect size. You’ll also gain proficiency in ethical research practices, including avoiding plagiarism and ensuring comprehensive and accurate reporting of research methods and findings.

  • SLO 1: Understand the importance of research methods in ensuring the value and accuracy of academic research, including the ability to critically evaluate research methods, comprehend the differences between quantitative and qualitative research, and recognize the characteristics of experimental and nonexperimental studies.
